OnePlus 3 and Android Nougat: If you can't wait, get it manually in easy steps

Android Nougat for the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T is here. It is still the same old -- and the same good -- OxygenOS that powers the OnePlus phones. But now in its version 4, the OxygenOS uses Android Nougat as its base and comes with several new features.

But as the updates go, the rollout of the OxygenOS 4 to the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T users is gradual. This means in some countries people have got it, in some they haven't. In some regions the update has reached people. In some it hasn't. in fact, the gradual rollout is such a roll of dice that may be your friend with a OnePlus 3 has got it but you with the newer OnePlus 3T are still waiting for it.

  • If you are a OnePlus 3 or a OnePlus 3T users who is yet to get the OxygenOS 4 update, you can wait some more. It will soon reach you. But if you can't wait and must have the OS update, there is a way out. And it doesn't need any rooting, unlocking bootloader or sideloading .tgz files etc. Interested? Here you go:
  • -- Ensure your OnePlus 3 or the OnePlus 3T is charged and connected to the internet.
  • -- Download and install a VPN app. The Opera VPN is free and available in the Google Play store.
  • -- Open the Opera VPN app and connect to a VPN server.
  • -- Once connected, change the location of the VPN server to Canada or Germany.
  • -- Go to the phone settings and check for the software update. The OxygenOS 4 will be available for your phone.
  • -- If you want, now you can disconnect the VPN.
  • -- Install the update. It may take a while to download and install because the update is over 900MB in size.
